We have over 110 seats in the restaurant and have considerable experience with large parties. The information on this page may be useful to you. When you are ready, please email us on choppingblock@walmgateale.co.uk or call 01904 629222. Please remember when you email to state the proposed date/time of your event, the number of guests & any specific needs about menus / special diets etc.
MENUS
For parties over 16 we need to insist on the use of the party menu or a pre-agreed variation. If you know you need a menu to accommodate some specific dietary requirement let us know if possible, with your initial enquiry. We can also create bespoke menus if required. If your party is under 16 people you are welcome to eat from the regular menu. However you may prefer to use the party menu – if makes budgeting simpler and is likely to allow a faster service.
SPACES
For groups of under 24, unless you need a private area, there is no need to worry about choosing a space we will find one for you. For larger groups we have a range of spaces to choose from. They can be used as a Private Dining Room, Christmas party, reception and meeting spaces as well as for Christenings, Wedding receptions and other functions.
our largest Party venue – THE LOFT
In the eaves of our 17th Century Grade ll Listed building, the area seats up to 55 people. It is the perfect place for large groups to enjoy a sit-down meal in a private room. Alternatively the area at the front of the loft seats 24, leaving room for other parties.

Our 1st Floor restaurant has two large dining rooms, seating 37 and 25 people. They can be used separately or as a whole space for your party. (In combination with the Loft the whole restaurant can seat up to 117.)

Ale House – PUB informal use
Our ground floor can accommodate casual parties, such as christenings or birthday celebrations & provide the perfect space for drinks and/or a buffet. You can use our Games Room (with or without our very own Bar Billiards table!) for a smaller event & have private access to our rear bar just for your party.

ORDER IN ADVANCE?: This is rarely useful unless you are under time pressure. Our staff are trained to cater to large parties and are happy to take your order after you have arrived We are very aware that this can create a lot of work for organisers. If do you want to provide a pre-order we strongly suggest you provide us with the format illustrated here. Unfortunately pre-orders need to be 95%+ complete to be helpful.
DIETS: Our menus cater for most specific dietary requirements, so there is no need to worry in advance about common concerns like Vegetarian or Gluten free diets. It is helpful to know about Vegans and severe or complex allergy issues in advance (although it’s not a problem to accommodate them).
DEPOSITS: We only ask for these for a short period of the Christmas party season.
DISABLED ACCESS: The nature of our listed building prevents us from providing wheelchair access to the Restaurant and Loft. There are wider, modern service stairs (the staff / emergency staircase) that provides easier access for those with limited mobility. We can convert the Games Room (ground floor) into a space for parties (25 max) if required. All toilets (including Disabled) are on the ground floor.
SERVICE: We add a 10% discretionary service charge to tables with 8 or more guests.
